Sturgis Motorcycle Rally

Sturgis

Sturgis South Dakota, is home to an annual event know by most bikers as the biggest party of the year. By far more bikers show up to the rally than any other. Started in 1938 in a sleepy little town by the Jackpine Gypsies Motorcycle Club, Sturgis has grown over the years by leaps and bounds. Most motorcycle clubs last for very few years, the good ol’ boys that started this have gone down in history as legends forever.

Originally just a meeting of friends and family Sturgis is now one of the premier biker rallies. Usually held in the first few weeks of August and ending with the last man standing or riding. This year’s festival covers a six day period, and includes a mirage of vendors, motorcycle dealers, and of course and endless party atmosphere.

Although the rally is mostly for people of legal age, the event is host to a number of people, from 8 to 80, blind, cripple, and crazy, and has plenty of activities no matter what age, gender or race. From motorcycle shows to wet t-shirt contest. You will have the time of your life no matter what you agenda are.

For the faint at heart there are many bike shows and contest to view. Think you bike is up to snuff? Enter your ride in daily contest to win cash and prizes. Either way you’ll want to check out the wildest bikes you’ve ever seen, a definite first place on your To Do list.

Next thing that you’ll want to check out after a long hot day in the sun is the liquid refreshment areas…i.e. the alcoholic amenities, and for you non-alcoholics I’m sure you’ll be able to find a nice cool glass of “Quit your wining & let go!” Seriously the rally has a wide variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages on hand to meet all you thirst quenching needs.

Last you don’t want to miss the vendors and dealers. There is sure to be the widest selection of parts and accessories you’ll ever find any where. From motorcycle helmets, to hand crafted leather motorcycle saddlebags, from innovative L.E.D. technologies to never before seen custom fiberglass fenders. You could literally spend all of your time looking through all the newest gadgets, and never see them all. Which reminds me, make sure to collect all your favorite vendors’ business cards so you’ll have a way to get you accessories.

I could go on about all the things to do in Sturgis, but to experience them yourself is far more rewarding than reading about them. But one last thing I’d ask you to consider, while you’re out in South Dakota you might just want to check out the Badlands. After dealing with all the hustle and bustle of the crowds you deserve a nice relaxing evening under the stars and I recommend going on a full moon. The full moon does fall a few days after the rally is over but it will sure be worth the wait. To experience the Badlands of South Dakota on a full moon is said to be comparable to being on the moon. The full moon is going to be on August 16, 2008. It will be an end to all ends on your Sturgis South Dakota Motorcycle rally.
